Denis Johnson is the author of eight novels, one novella, one book of short stories, three collections of poetry, two collections of plays, and one book of reportage. His novel Tree of Smoke won the 2007 National Book Award.

Coming from a rabid D. Johnson fan, plays are not his forte.

So if you're into plays, there are many contemporary playwrights out there that deserve to be given precedence over Johnson.
That being said, the plays are still Denis-Johnson witty and reward the reader with intelligent pages, but fall short of making an overall impression.
The plays in this book feature a couple introduced in Shoppers: Two Plays, a family ,and a talking-TV, among others.
