Best book on the 5300

I am a novice photographer-not good with "things"-and old. I had purchased several other books and read the manual trying to understand my fabulous camera-I was discouraged until I found this book. It is clearly and logically written; Mr. Busch presents complex information in stages. After several chapters I already feel comfortable with my camera and able to learn more. I will buy all his books.

Look No Further - This Is The One

My recent purchase of the D610 was my first Nikon product. Prior to this I had been strictly a Canon man. I acknowledge that once I got the camera I was a bit out of my league in terms of using all the bells & whistles now at my disposal, and the manual that came with the camera was of little help to be honest. I've found David Busch's Nikon D610 guide to be extremely helpful in learning how to operate my new camera. The explanations are clear and concise, and he provides supportive reasoning with his instruction. In fact, I found Busch's guide to be so informative that I also purchased his Compact Field Guide for use when I travel. Trust me, once you go through these guides and practice what David Busch is telling you, you'll find that your D610 can do a lot more than you thought it could.

Mostly Positive

I read the manual for my new camera first and found it clearly written and easy to follow. However, I have a Busch book for another camera which was useful and since I have shot zero movies until now figured I might need some extra help.
Busch does duplicate an awful lot of information so the book gets a little repetitious. Also, as with so many authors discussing digital technique, he exhibits certain preferences and biases when all I want is the basic operational information
Most photographers have developed subject preferences and modes of working and don't really need to know someone else's working habits.
Like most digital SLR cameras these days so many of its capabilities are really image editing capability which I would never use. I just transfer files to my computer and do all my image editing there.
The book does have many photos of the controls and parts of the camera which is useful.
I will keep this book in my library to use as a reference and I suppose it is worth reading straight through like I did. But I am a completist!
