About the Author

David G. Muller, Jr. is a historian and experienced Bible teacher who recently retired after 44 years in U.S. intelligence. Muller ran intelligence operations on five continents, but his specialty is analysis – examining assumptions, assessing source reliability, calculating confidence levels and probabilities, developing alternative explanations for events, and writing clear, cogent assessments. Readers of his assessments included Cabinet officers and the President. Muller studied Chinese language at Stanford University, graduated from Dartmouth College in history and Chinese, then studied Russian language and earned an advanced degree in history at the University of Michigan. He and his wife and daughters are active members at an evangelical church in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

An incredible new look at the history of Revelation!

This book is an extraordinarily concise analysis of the history of Revelation and how it was added to the New Testament. The author meticulously makes his case using a clear, step-by-step process using an extensive bibliography of ancient works. The reader can easily follow the respectful analysis and the conclusion is self-evident. Only 120 pages, the author uses a process that is direct and unemotional. This book is a must-read. Its impact on modern Christianity remains to be seen. Excellent scholarly work that is highly readable!

Good but not great

Pros:
1. It is nice to have this level of detail an analysis in a stand-alone book rather than simply as part of a larger commentary. It is a nice compilation of research not unlike a commentary introduction, but probably more readable.
2. When there are two sides to a particular argument, Muller presents both sides sufficiently (No Straw Man arguments).
3. Very readable.
4. Coherent train of thought.
5. Sufficient detail for someone new to the study while not getting bogged down in too many details.

Best uses:
1. Introduction to an understanding of the history of the text
2. Reference volume for students.

Cons:
1. In the preface Muller says it is important to test assumptions. Yet does not do so exhaustively with his own assumptions. For example: in evaluating the authenticity of authorship, Muller explicitly assumes the Apostle John to have an age of 25 during the earthly ministry of Jesus. This untested assumption will have an impact on his conclusion about the author of the text.
2. I expected new material to come to light in his study and analysis. However, I did not learn any new facts or sources that I had not already learned from other commentaries and books. If you have read much scholarly work about the book, then you may not find much new information.
3. On many of his conclusions, there is less empirical data to support his conclusions than I was hoping. Ultimately, he does as every other commentator does and selects between Options A and B based on the the "clear" or "obvious" choice. Unfortunately, few choices are that clear-cut.

A Quick Shot of Motivation

I downloaded this book after I heard the author on John Lee Dumas' podcast, "Entrepreneur on Fire". I was so impressed by Jesse's articulate and thoughtful answers (and the calm demeanor that he sustained in spite of JLD's high level of intensity) that I knew I would appreciate his approach to this topic. I was also intrigued by the fact that he wrote and published it as a challenge to himself in 7 days.
As you would expect from any book that takes 3 days to write, it's a fairly quick read and doesn't dive deep into any one topic which was appropriate in this case. I loved the pace of the book and it actually makes me want to commit to a similar challenge. If you're lacking in motivation, this book will inspire you to move forward.
Jesse makes a convincing case that hustle is best sustained through momentum. He gives plenty of examples for each of his points and just as important, he defines what hustle ISN'T.
What surprised me most is how few typos, grammatical and structural errors. The book was well-organized and flowed well. It was clearly written and succinct, which I always appreciate.

You can't miss this book!

I have read numerous books classified as "Business" and books classified as "Personal Growth" and this book is one that melds these two classifications into a very readable and more importantly doable formula for a reader to develop their own "hustle"

It's a quick read but it is packed with useful information covering; habits, marketing, organization, communication, relationships and more. While I would say books intended audience are entrepreneurs much of the content would apply to daily living for anyone.

The book doesn't dive deep into any specific topic but adequately covers a wide range of related topics weaving each into the "Hustle" narrative resulting in a well crafted book that pulls together ideas and strategies that make you feel, "I can do this".

The references at the end of the book are worth the price of the book by themselves. The content is presented in a manner that reads well, and is coherent. I'd write more but I need to get started on my own Hustle.

Jesse has a lot of great tips in this book that make it both inspiring and actionable.

I think that "Hustle" focuses more on the process of producing a book, but its an experience we can all learn from anyways. It takes a lot of effort to write this many words and edit and market it and have it rate as highly as it does. There are so many things that hold us back, but I think this serves as a good reminder that larger feats are still possible even in short amounts of time.

It doesn't offer anything revolutionary, but it was a fun read and definitely hammers down on the fundamentals of hustling -- which is essentially putting 100% into life.
