Recommended with reservations to the chapters about blogging at Linkedin.

Stephanie Sammons' book " Linked to Influence: 7 Powerful Rules for Becoming a Top Influencer in Your Market and Attracting Your Ideal Clients on LinkedIn" is an good book but it has one flaw.

The author does not dictate,
"... These rules are meant to serve as strategic guideposts for you to follow..."

but encourages the reader to create his/her own Linkedin-portrait/presentation,
"... Think about the people who have influenced you. Why do you follow them? What have they done for you? How have they impacted your life?..."

I appreciated that a lot because too many authors try to suggest to-force a one-size-fits-all system, when clearly, in times like ours there is no one-size-fits-all solution to anything.

Sammons points to the essence and does NOT suggest that creating that profile is easy.
"... Building your personal influence on LinkedIn (and online in general) is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight—it accumulates over time..."

Again, this is a huge plus in my world. I am so sick and tired of books which suggest that anything is easy. Quite to the contrary, because, today the whole world is participating and competing, every career step and the presentation thereof need to be thought through carefully. This is where Sammons' book shines. Step by steps she walks the reader through the process.

Now, here is the flaw:

I do not agree with with the author about the topic of blogging at Linkedin. I post the same blogs on my own blog (with blogger) and on Linkedin. For every 50 hits on Linkedin I get 500 on Blogger.

Of course, my observations are merely the one of a blogger, who watches her own data. However, in light of Mr. Itai Leshem's revelations about blogging stats at Linkedin I must wonder why author Stephanie Simmons, who by her own account is a Linkedin expert, did not know this.

Beginner or Expert: Master LinkedIn from Where You Are

This book exceeded my expectations in every single way. I've been using LinkedIn for several years and always suspected that I wasn't using it effectively. I've read two other books that helped me improve but only incrementally. I have so much highlighting and flags sticking out on the pages that my copy looks like a bluebird rather than a book! I love that Stephanie included a link to a related workbook because that will help provide the reinforcement to implement many of her recommendations.

Steven Strong is an Australian-based researcher, historian, author and former teacher with a background in archaeology. He has spent many years learning and living with the Bundjalung and Gumilaroi people of Northern NSW. Evan Strong has a background in the Social Sciences, his Degree major was psychology, archaeology/anthropology and counselling/mediation. Evan is an author, researcher, historian and webmaster. Bruce Fenton is a British researcher of ancient mysteries and investigator of supernatural phenomena. He is known for research of the Ecuadorian Lost City of Giants. Daniella Fenton is an Australian psychic medium and initiated shamaness. She has a background in business and tourism, and is a successful horse broker.

Requires an open mind and willingness to learn new things

This is a great book and I highly recommend it. Having said that it will expand your horizons to where you may not have thought "acceptable". Never mind that, it's been a steep climb for humans since discovering the world was round... again....... It was obviously known before - as is this. I highly respect that the Strong's are in communication with and directed by the Original Australian Elders. So much as been kept 'under wraps' by the indigenous elders of the world until the time was right.It is that time now - and a critical time for us all at that. We have the memory is our very DNA and cells.... but we have to remember how to access that info. Some people - and a lot more are speaking up now - have accessed that by remembrance, regression, etc. The tribal people of many places (including North America) have not forgotten their ancestry from the stars. The second part of the book may be a stretch for some that it is new information for them.... not for a lot of people though. If you cannot accept that your academic history may not have told the whole truth, this may not be for you - yet. For those willing to listen to learned elders and real evidence, then you will be fascinated - and educated.

Well written, but the second half of the book isn't very good

I didn't mind the first part of the book, but the lack of scientific information especially in the second part, with a clairvoyant expressing his past life as an alien in a damaged spacecraft, some 250,000 years ago, was taking things too far. If he could back this up with scientific prove - yes, clairvoyants / mediums can be tested, then maybe I would have bought this book. Overall, the book was well written, and while the first half isn't too bad, I thought it could have been much better. The second author reflects the book's lower rating. There were many times when I wanted to throw it away and give up, but I did continue till the end. I didn't find the book very satisfying as a result of the second author. I didn't buy his account. I wanted to see more backup information.

Firstly it all seems all so unreal but when one seeks the truth it is easy to understand. I would, and am suggesting to everyone I can to read this book. Excellent and thank you to the authors for taking the time to share this critical knowledge with humanity. May it be that we are set free from the slavery that has kept us imprisoned for so long.

John W. Mullins John Mullins is Associate Professor of Management Practice at London Business School, where he heads the entrepreneurship group. He earned his MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and, considerably later in life, his PhD in marketing from the University of Minnesota. An award-winning teacher, John brings to his teaching and research 20 years of executive experience in high-growth firms, including two ventures he founded, one of which he took public. Since becoming a business school professor in 1992, John has published more than 30 articles in a variety of outlets, including Harvard Business Review, the Journal of Product Innovation Management, and the Journal of Business Venturing. His research has won national and international awards from the Marketing Science Institute, the American Marketing Association, and the Richard D. Irwin Foundation. He is also co-author of Marketing Management: A Strategic Decision-Making Approach, 5th edition. His recent trade book, The New Business Road Test: What Entrepreneurs and Executives Should Do Before Writing a Business Plan, is the definitive work on the assessment and shaping of market opportunities.

Orville C. Walker, Jr. Orville C. Walker, Jr. is Professor Emeritus in the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management, where he served until recently as the James D. Watkins Professor of Marketing and Director of the PhD Program. He holds a Master’s degree in social psychology from the Ohio State University and a PhD in marketing from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Orville is the co-author of three books and has published more than 50 research articles in scholarly and business journals. Very well written teaching tool for marketing

I was required to use the book for a marketing class. The book is well written, thorough and very current. It addresses global markets, new media uses for promotion and all the aspects of marketing. The text is easy to follow and can provide a solids understanding of marketing practices, concepts and tools. Each chapter has summaries or Takeaways and links to the web information. For the class, the online resource provided example questions that were very close to my exams (they were essay types).

My only two dings for the book are: 1) Repetition and 2) no actual example business plan(s). For #1, the book provided plenty of detail in defining and describing all the topics. However, after the written text, the information was presented again in table form. I liked the table form as well. Maybe repetition is a good thing. For #2, I was surprised that the text did not include an actual business plan based on the outline on page 21. It would have been beneficial to provide a written example plan. I realize there are thousands of businesses that utilize a marketing strategy. Providing a working example would have been better. In addition, they could have shown what makes plans 'good' and 'bad'. Sure, you can search the web but the book really needed to provide a complete plan. I had to write one for the class.

I would recommend the book if you are interested in marketing.

Marketing Management Textbook

The book was required for a marketing management class. I'm finding very little of value in the book that can't be found for free on the internet. It's the 4 P's of marketing stated and rehashed. For instructors I would recommend either a different book or creating your own presentations and linking to information readily available in the public domain.

The purchase from Amazon was smooth with no problems. I highly recommend Amazon.

Poor execution

Having used this book for an MBA course, I expected better correlation with the print version. There were no true page numbers. This created difficulty for the course since my professor used an altered version of the text that referenced the original page numbers and a new set. The table of contents were not integrated for easy navigation. Lesson learned: check with bookstore copies of texts before buying kindle versions. Compare trial downloads with chapter in print. Additionally, there was content missing from the kindle version that was in the print version at the end of chapters. When I attempted to access resources from the publisher's website, included content wasn't available due to the digital purchase. I have had better luck with other kindle texts.

About the Author

Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumdar was a distinguished writer of stories for children in Bengali. One of his major contributions to Bengali literature is a four-volume compilation of Bengali folk and fairy tales, of which Thakurmar Jhuli (Grandmother's Bag of Tales) is the best loved.

Thakurmar Jhuli in English Translation

This translation version is a must read for new generation Bengali children living outside Bengal (assuming they don't comfortably read Bengali scripts). It covers only twelve stories. Original Bengali edition has more stories than this translated version. Font size of the texts is very small, not appropriate for nursery school children. It could be illustrated and designed much better way for attracting a larger audience, who love fairy tales.
