Very nicely done...

I've been a developer for over 24 years and I've been writing PHP applications for the DHS for over 10 years. I purchased this book as a desk reference and have found it very useful. It's well organized, so I can find what I'm looking for in a snap. I don't have time to read it from cover to cover, but what I have read has been very insightful and well worth the purchase price. I recommend this book over all others. I also purchased the PHP book, you know the one with the funny animals, and it was absolutely the worse book I ever read. It was not helpful at all. It was written by too many authors and left me confused. Yes, wording the same thing in 2 different ways becomes very confusing. I think I'll stick with the Experts from now on. Hope this helps.

A good book to start PHP

Minor typing errors and code errors are there, but if you are an experienced code examiner, they pose no hinder for learning the interesting PHP language. PHP is changing rapidly, so I gathered much from this book, even if all the changes made to this language are not presented in this newest book. For the novice, though, a substantial basis to start learning!

I provided a good quick reference guide to all the basic functions of PHP and MySQL. The book mostly focuses on the common and new functions for PHP. Though it mentions the legacy functions the new ones replace it does not provide a lot of detail on the legacy functions. So if you are planning on updating/optimizing your legacy PHP code, this book will definitely help. If you need a reference book for a legacy functions code you are better off using the docs on [...]

About the Author
Dr. Ranu Jung is the Wallace H. Coulter Eminent Scholars Chair of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University, where her research concerns neural engineering and computational neuroscience. Dr. Dieter Jaeger is Professor in the Department of Biology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. His research examines how neurons in the basal ganglia and in the cerebellum process their inputs, in order to understand the motor function of basal ganglia and cerebellar networks.

This is the best single stand alone reference concerning the mathematical and statistical modeling of neural systems and neurobiology. The book has a prestigious authorship in an A-Z format. The references, diagrams, in color photos, and formulae are complete. Nuclei, dendrites, single neuron and populational neuronal units are carefully discussed. The illustrations are one of the best aspects of this 3500 page tome.

Auditory, visual, somatosensory, motor, and, association systems are a good part of the discussion here. The balance of vestibular and proprioceptive models are discussed and their relationship to the afferent and efferent populations included.

Biophysics of single neurons is described with relationship to ion channel mechanics also. The Nernst-Planck and Hodgkin Huxley models are treated with respect. Bayesian, thermodynamic, and physical theories are applied in a multidimensional manner. I think this is a tribute to the excellent editorship here. Models of the basal ganglia, hippocampus, primary visual cortex, and thalamus are discussed with the Watson & Crick theories covered. David Marr’s vision theories are also discussed. Circuit analysis is complete here. Working and practical models of memory and hearing devoted to their own specific chapters.

The physics of cerebrovascular blood flow and metabolism is a devoted to separate sections of the book’s chapters. Imaging techniques and wiring diagram explanations are an excellent presentation throughout the books.

The book should help all students and senior investigators alike. I endorse the science of this outstanding reference.

John D. Zelezny, an attorney and senior public relations executive, has extensive experience in both academia and the professional world of communications. His varied career began as a small-town newspaper reporter in the 1970s, later encompassed 15 years as a professor of media law and journalism at three West Coast universities, and eventually led to his employment as a corporate executive and strategic communications adviser to CEOs and boards of directors. He is a member of the State Bar of California, and currently serves as senior vice president and chief communications officer for Community Medical Centers in Fresno, Calif. He is a frequent lecturer on communications law and the author of complex First Amendment problems for law-school advocacy competitions. Mr. Zelezny holds degrees from Humboldt State University and the University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law.

Really well written book. I used it during a communications law class for my masters degree, and I really did learn a lot from it. I thought it was going to be a little confusing at first, seeing as though I didn't know much about law, but it was great.

Great series of trail guides
